About

Lynne Wallis is an artist living in Northern NSW. Her landscape paintings grow from her first hand experiences coupled with memories. While her works often reflect the region where she lives, Lynne creates a reality in her paintings that transcends specific locations, a reality that evokes the timeless qualities of the natural world and celebrates the transient but precious nature of every moment. Her abstract works create meditative spaces that invite quiet reflection.

Born in Sydney, Lynne gained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) (UNSW 1974) and a Diploma of Education (UNSW 1975). After many years working as a high school English teacher, she returned to her lifelong love of visual art and began landscape painting in 2002. After several years of self taught discovery and learning and a solo exhibition in 2014, she returned to university to study Visual Arts at Southern Cross University, Lismore, gaining a post graduate Diploma in Visual Arts and winning the Chancellor’s Award at the 2016 SCU Graduation exhibition.

”Starting my art career late in life, I am in the enviable position of being able to paint whenever and however I want without the career demands and constraints faced by younger artists. I have tremendous freedom to follow my heart, painting realistic works or more abstract pieces as I wish, hence the evolving, varied and sometimes unexpected directions of my work over time. But the common thread in all my work is to create a beautiful experience for the viewer that is a response to the image created as well as to the medium’s stillness and materiality.”
